PACIFIC NORTHWEST WORKSHOP

On February 2-3, 2011 Microsoft Research hosted a workshop bringing together users and providers of marine information to explore how monitoring and forecasting the ocean, coast and estuaries can best deliver safety, economic and environmental benefits to industries, government and citizens of the Pacific Northwest. The event provided valuable insight from over 20 speakers; presentations, video, and outcomes will be posted on the Pacific Northwest webpage.

GREAT LAKES WORKSHOP

On June 21, 2011 the Interagency Ocean Observation Committee co-hosted a workshop with the Great Lakes Observing System to provide attendees with an understanding of Great Lakes observing systems and their uses, explore existing and emerging user needs for data and information, and provide an opportunity to match use needs with observing system capability. CALIFORNIA WORKSHOP

IOOC hosted the workshop May25, 2010, which explored how monitoring and understanding the ocean delivers economic and environmental benefits to industries, government, and citizens of California, at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego. GULF OF MEXICO WORKSHOP

This workshop focused on improved management of Gulf assets through better understanding of coastal hazards. The event held, November 13, 2009 at the ExxonMobil Exploration Co., Houston, Texas. The event highlighted traditional means of addressing uncertainty and provide new strategies for coping with uncertainty during changing environmental conditions through leveraging ocean observing systems. U.S. KICKOFF WORKSHOP

On April 14th, 2009 the Interagency Working Group on Ocean Observations in conjunction with the Institute for Marine Engineering, Science and Technology, the National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration, and Science Applications International Corporation hosted an industry workshop at the American Film Institute in Silver Spring, Maryland.

The workshop was attended by over seventy participants from academia, government, industry, and nonprofits. Presentations during the morning connected businesses with climate change and outlined the role of uncertainty. Afternoon break out sessions provided participants with an opportunity to discuss the role of government in conducting industry outreach and challenges to reaching the business community.
